Natural England has published an additional update stating that it is taking all necessary measures to protect its staff and prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). Plans have been announced to resume some site management, monitoring visits and work to protect and inspect the natural environment. Interim Chief Executive Marian Spain has explained that Natural England's focus has been to implement appropriate contingencies and that the public’s safe and responsible access to nature remains paramount. Natural England has clarified that National Nature Reserves have remained open for local communities, and that car parks will reopen where possible. Visitor facilities such as toilets and hides will remain closed, and new rules on outdoor visits will be issued and become operational on 13 May 2020.
