The Insolvency Service has published its monthly insolvency statistics for September 2021, which contain data on company and individual insolvencies. The statistics show that there were 1,446 registered company insolvencies, 56% higher than September 2020 and 4% lower than the number (1,510) registered in September 2019. In addition, there were 614 bankruptcies and 2,150 Debt Relief Orders (DRO) registered in September 2021, the highest number since the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic began. The statistics highlight that the number of bankruptcies was 42% lower than September 2020 and DRO numbers were 41% higher than September 2020 but remained lower than pre-pandemic levels (12% lower than in September 2019). The data further shows that in the three-month period ending September 2021, there were, on average, 6,853 Individual Voluntary Agreements registered per month.
