The Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee has announced that on 8 June 2020 it will hold a virtual Q&A session on social and affordable rented housing and the government’s assessment of the need for and strategy to provide it. The session will also consider the likely impact of the government’s Affordable Homes Programme, announced in the Spring Budget, on the ability of housing providers to build more homes and the proportion of rented homes versus low-cost ownership homes in the overall affordable housing mix. Analysis of 2018 housing supply requirements for England found that 90,000 new social rent homes needed to be built per year to meet demand, however, only 6,200 were delivered in 2019. Participants in the session include Minister for Housing, Christopher Pincher MP, and Chief Executive of Homes England, Nick Walkley among others.
