The government has announced that 32 local authorities will be given a share of £93.4m to repair roads and bridges through the Local Highways Maintenance Challenge Fund. A further £900,000 will be given to scientists, innovators, academics and tech-focused start-ups to research new methods to ‘future proof’ UK roads. The announcements are part of the government’s efforts to level up connectivity by aiding councils in the improvement of their key infrastructure, tackling congestion and improving journeys.
