The Department for Education (DfE) has announced that it has asked Ofsted to undertake a review of safeguarding measures in state and independent schools. The review will examine the extent and severity of issues and ensure schools have appropriate mechanisms in place for reporting. The review will additionally aim to determine if current inspection regimes and guidance are adequate. The announcement comes in the context of the publication of the government’s Tackling Child Sexual Abuse Strategy in January 2020. DfE has also announced a new hotline run by the NSPCC to support victims of sexual harassment and abuse in the education setting.
