The government has published a new factsheet on its ‘five-point plan’ for legal migration, which contains some important changes and clarifications. This includes that the raise to the minimum income threshold for family visas will be done incrementally, to £29,000 in Spring 2024, then moving to £34,500, and then £38,700 (as previously announced). There is no timing given on the latter two rises. These figures are stated to be respectively the 25th, 40th and 50th percentile of earnings at RQF3, in line with the government’s intention to move to the same level as for the general Skilled Worker threshold (which is changing to £38,700 from Spring). Also, there will no longer be a separate child element to the minimum income requirement, ‘to ensure that British nationals are not treated less favourably than migrants who are required to meet the General Skilled Worker threshold as a flat rate, regardless of any children being sponsored’....
