The Council of the European Union, the European Parliament and the European Commission have reached an agreement on a revised regulation on enforcement of international trade rules. The parties’ aim in amending the regulation is to protect the EU's trade interests and rights better within the context of the current ‘paralysis’ of the World Trade Organization's (WTO) dispute settlement system. The amending regulation should also ensure that the EU can enforce its trade rights if one of its partners blocks the normal dispute settlement mechanism.
