Article summary
Parliament's European Scrutiny Committee (ESC) has launched an inquiry into the progress of reforming retained EU law (REUL). REUL is the law that continues to apply to the UK and was written during the UK's membership of the EU. The Retained EU Law (Revocation and Reform) Act 2023 (REUL(RR)A 2023) was passed in June 2023 and allows for REUL to be amended, revoked or replaced. The ESC has asked for written responses on whether the government's plans for the reform of REUL are unique in terms of scope and potential impact, what progress has been made by the government towards REUL reform and how the government should approach the mechanics of REUL reform. The Committee has asked for written evidence to be submitted before 5 pm on 5 February 2024.
