The European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) has published an opinion on the European Commission's proposal for a Regulation converting the Farm Accountancy Data Network into a Farm Sustainability Data Network, which was issued on 22 June 2022. The proposal aims to regulate personal data processing by collecting farm level economic, social and environmental data alongside managing the use of such data in Farm Sustainability Data Network (FSDN). In short, the EDPS welcomes that the proposal contains explicit references to the need to comply with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation, Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (EU GDPR), but also recommends that this is referenced in a systematic and consistent manner to avoid introducing concepts already covered by those instruments.
