The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) has published a policy paper which outlines a broad range of statistics and data that will be obtained to monitor the improvement of the natural environment. The report responds to the requirements under section 16 of the Environment Act 2021 and will be annually reviewed and updated. The data obtained will consider whether there has been an improvement in the natural environment over the reporting period and will demonstrate the steps taken to implement the Environmental Improvement Plan highlighting progress, long-term and interim goals. An Annual Progress Report will be published, which will use evidence from the Outcome Indicator Framework.
