The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) has announced that National Trail status has been awarded for the Coast to Coast route from St Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hoods Bay in North York Moors National Park to improve access to nature for all. Natural England will work alongside partners to improve the route with a £5.6m investment to make the path more accessible for people of differing abilities, high quality signage, circular paths, promotions, working with local businesses and funding for local authorities to maintain the path. The upgraded path is expected to open in 2025.
