Article summary

The Welsh Government has announced it will seek consent from the Welsh Parliament (Senedd Cymru) to introduce an emergency bill on 27 January 2021. The Bill will 'provide a range of measures to adapt and manage the conduct of the next Senedd election' amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. As a last resort, the illB will enable the election, due to take place on 6 May 2021, to be postponed for up to six months if necessary. Two-thirds of Senedd Members would need to agree to postponement and would also need to agree a new date for the election.
