Article summary

The government has announced that working families will continue to benefit from childcare support even if their financial situation has changed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Working parents or carers who are eligible to 30 hours free childcare or Tax-Free Childcare but do not meet the minimum income requirement as a result of the pandemic will continue to receive financial support until 31 October 2020. Critical workers will also continue to receive support this tax year even if their income exceeds the threshold for 2020–21 due to their vital role in the public health crisis. The government-funded childcare support will also be boosted as ‘families will receive a £2 government top-up for every £8 they pay into their child’s account, up to the value of £2,000 per child, or £4,000 per disabled child in financial support’.
