The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) has reported the sentencing of a man linked to an international drug cartel importing Class A drugs from Ecuador to Scotland. The COPFS has said that alongside his associates, Tony Bennett used secret laboratories to refine the raw cocaine and heroin, before selling the drugs to dealers throughout Scotland. Bennett was arrested following a police raid on his Cumbernauld address in August 2021. A police-led intelligence operation established that Bennett was in contact with 60 criminal associates internationally, and encrypted messages included reference to cocaine deals and the purchase of an automatic machine gun. Bennett was sentenced to three years and nine months’ jail at the High Court in Aberdeen, having pleaded guilty to being concerned in serious organised crime between March and June 2020. The COPFS has said that Bennett will now be the subject of confiscation order proceedings.
