Article summary
Ofcom has launched a consultation on its proposals to extend the range of mobile repeaters available to allow those with insufficient indoor mobile phone signal to buy and install the repeaters themselves without requiring a licence. In particular, Ofcom intends to allow ‘provider-specific’ and ‘multi-operator’ repeaters, which operate on frequencies of multiple mobile operators, to be licence-exempt if they meet the proposed technical requirements. Views on publishing a list, on Ofcom’s website, of mobile phone repeaters that can be used without a licence and that have demonstrated that they comply with the technical requirements are also sought. The consultation closes at 5 pm on 28 July 2021.
