The Children’s Commissioner for England, Anne Longfield, has warned that 420,000 children in England are at risk of eviction unless the government extends its ban on housing evictions. The 420,000 is based on an estimate of number of families with children who were in rent arrears in May 2020. The Commissioner has also released a new report ('No way out') that looks at the experiences of the thousands of children who had to live in Bed and Breakfast temporary accommodation during the coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown and ‘highlights the damaging effects eviction and homelessness can have for vulnerable children’.
