Article summary
The European Commission has proposed a temporary emergency regulation to advance the deployment of renewable energy sources in order to diversify supplies, save energy, and reduce dependence on Russian fossil fuels. This complements previous emergency measures and will last for one year, during which time major revisions to Directive (EU) 2018/2001 (the Renewable Energy Directive (REDII)), which are currently being discussed by legislative bodies, will be adopted and transposed. The proposal is aimed at technologies and projects which allow for the speediest deployment and lowest adverse impacts on the environment.
