The World Trade Organization (WTO) has announced that Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala of Nigeria will become the organization’s seventh Director-General, set to take office on 1 March 2021. Her term, renewable, will expire on 31 August 2025. Okonjo-Iweala is the first woman and the first African to be chosen as Director-General.
