Secretary of State accepts TRA recommendation to maintain anti-dumping measure on Chinese ironing boards until 2029

The Secretary of State for Business and Trade has accepted the Trade Remedies Authority (TRA)’s recommendation to maintain an anti-dumping measure on ironing boards imported from China for a further five years, until 2029. The duties will remain at their current levels, ranging from 18.1% to 42.3%, depending on the exporter. Following a transition review, the TRA concluded that maintaining the measure would help prevent the dumping of low-priced imports and subsequent injury to the UK industry, and that the measure met the Economic Interest Test. The products covered include ironing boards with or without steam soaking, heating or blowing surfaces, as well as sleeve boards and essential parts from China.

Farming safeguard for EU-Mercosur trade deal endorsed by EU Parliament

MLex: EU lawmakers endorsed legislation on Tuesday that allows the EU to swiftly suspend tariff preferences if agricultural imports from the Mercosur bloc risk serious harm to EU producers. The ‘farming safeguard’ introduces faster triggers, investigations and reinforced monitoring for sensitive products. The vote is the final parliamentary hurdle before the measure can be published and applied alongside the EU-Mercosur trade agreement.

EU steel-safeguard discussions to begin on 23 February 2026

MLex: EU lawmakers and national capitals will begin their talks aimed at reaching an agreement on steel safeguards on 23 February 2026, in a bid to counteract the negative trade-related effects of the global steel production surplus on the EU's market, MLex has learned. The global steel safeguards, which have been in place since 2018 under World Trade Organization (WTO) rules, will expire at the end of June 2026.
