Fraudulent insurance claims continue to top £1bn a year

Law360, London: Fraudulent claims in the UK general insurance sector rose again in 2024, with those linked to motor cover driving much of the increase, the Association of British Insurers (ABI) warned on 17 November 2025.

FCA announces end date for Premier Insurance policies

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has announced that the joint administrators of Premier Insurance Company Limited plan to end all remaining policies on 1 December 2025 as part of the firm’s administration process. On 14 October 2025, the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (GFSC) announced that the firm had entered administration. It predominantly wrote car and motorcycle insurance for UK customers through its intermediary Premier Underwriting Ltd and ceased writing new insurance in January 2025. Policyholders are advised to arrange alternative cover before the policy end date. Eligible claims may be protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), which provides up to 90% compensation for first-party claims and full protection for third-party claims.
