Insolvency is a creature of statute. For thirty years, the law, practice and procedure applicable to the insolvency of individuals were to be found in the provisions of the Insolvency Act 1986 and the Insolvency Rules 1986. Those provisions mostly came into effect on 29 December 1986. They have been amended from time to time since and, with effect from 6 April 2017, the whole of the Insolvency Rules 1986 were repealed and replaced by the new Rules (2016 Rules)1.
