Call for Climate Justice has announced that the Cantonal Court of Zug has ruled that a climate lawsuit filed by four Indonesian fishers against Swiss-based cement producer Holcim is admissible. The plaintiffs, residents of Pari Island, argue that Holcim’s carbon dioxide emissions have contributed to climate change impacts, including flooding and sea-level rise that threaten their homes and livelihoods.

The European Commission has launched two calls for contributions on competition in virtual worlds and generative artificial intelligence (AI) and sent requests for information to various large digital players. The Commission is seeking views from stakeholders on their experience on the level of competition regarding virtual worlds and generative AI and on how competition law can ensure that these new markets are competitive. The Commission is also examining some of the agreements, which have been concluded between large digital market players and generative AI developers and providers, assessing the effects of these partnerships on market dynamics and assessing if Microsoft's investment in OpenAI may be 'reviewable' under Council Regulation (EC) 139/2004 (the EU Merger Regulation). The Commission will review all the information provided by stakeholders and may organise a workshop in Q2 2024 to compile different perspectives from the call for contributions. The call for contributions will close on 11 March 2024.

The group developing the UK’s Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard (NZCBS) has opened a call for evidence to help inform and guide the development of the NZCBS. The coalition is calling on UK built environment industry practitioners to supply operational energy and embodied carbon performance data for their buildings, in order to develop the NZCBS evidence base. The deadline for submissions is 16 December 2022.
