The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorised charges against Robert Bush, following an investigation into Legacy Independent Funeral Directors in Hull. Bush faces 64 charges including 30 counts of preventing lawful burial, 31 counts of fraud by false representation, two counts of theft from charities, and one count of fraudulent trading. The charges relate to alleged offences between 2012-2024, affecting 172 funeral plan victims and 50 human ashes victims. Bush will appear at Hull magistrates' court on 25 June 2025.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has announced that it has authorised charges against Vladimir Motin, a 59-year-old Russian ship captain, for gross negligence manslaughter following a fatal vessel collision in the North Sea. The incident occurred on 10 March 2025, when the Portuguese registered cargo ship, Solong, collided with the American registered oil tanker, Stena Immaculate, resulting in the death of Filipino crew member, Mark Angelo Pernia. The case is being handled by the CPS Special Crime Division and Motin appeared at Hull magistrates' court on 15 March 2025.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has announced the commencement of its civil recovery proceedings in regards to the property and other additional assets that have been seized in the UK from Yadi Zhang and Jian Wen. On 18 September 2024 the claim was issued in the King’s Bench Division of the High Court under Part 5 of the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002. This move follows allegations of unlawful conduct, including fraudulent activities in China involving Tianjin Lantian Geri Electronic Technology Co Ltd. Criminal proceedings involving Jian Wen have been adjourned until January 2025.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has announced that a company has been convicted of corporate manslaughter for the death of an elderly woman, Frances Norris, who suffered burns on 12% of her body while being bathed after Aster Healthcare Ltd pleaded guilty. The 93-year-old woman, who suffered from advanced dementia and less able to communicate, was being bathed by carers who were not checking the temperature of the water. Mrs Norris was taken to hospital and died three days later.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has announced that the former chairman of the Association of UK Payment Institutions has been convicted of money laundering by Southwark Crown Court. The individual, Dominic Thorncroft, laundered the proceeds of an investment fraud worth £850,000, which involved over 60 victims. The investigation into Thorncroft commenced in 2016 and found that he allowed his business to be used by fraudsters to transfer money to Hong Kong and China.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has announced that paedophile, Carson Grimes, has been convicted of rape, indecent assault and indecency with children. Grimes targeted, groomed and sexually abused children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Many of his victims were in care or living with temporary foster guardians at the time. He spiked their drinks with sedatives and would threaten violence against them and their families. Grimes was found guilty of 11 counts of rape, eight counts of buggery, 11 counts of indecent assault and six counts of indecency with a child. He will be sentenced on 13 October 2021.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has announced on that three fund managers have been convicted of fraud by abuse of position of trust relating to £11.4m losses from Libya's sovereign wealth fund. Frederic Marino, 56 and Yoshika Ohmura, 47, were found guilty at Southwark Crown Court in a re-trial, while Aurelien Bessot, 47, had previously pleaded guilty. The re-trial was necessary because the previous jury was incorrectly informed of Bessot's guilty plea.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has announced that a Nottinghamshire council accountant has been jailed for defrauding a local authority of almost £1m over two decades. Alan Doig used his position to steal £934,343.30 from his council by manipulating payroll, creditor payments, and a car loan scheme. Doig covered his tracks by altering the council's accounts. Doig’s fraudulent scheme eventually unravelled when a colleague noticed irregularities in the car loan program and reported concerns to a senior colleague. A detailed investigation by Nottinghamshire police revealed the full extent of Doig's fraudulent activities, leading to his dismissal from the authority. Doig pleaded guilty at a hearing at Nottingham Crown court on 12 September 2024 and was sentenced to five years imprisonment.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has announced that Declan Nowell, the company director for an unregistered Forex investment scheme called Investing4you Ltd, was sentenced to eight years and one month imprisonment at Hull Crown Court. Nowell pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud and one count of contravening the General Prohibition under section 19 of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (FSMA 2000). CPS and Humberside Police determined that Investing4you Ltd operated as a Ponzi-style investment scam, receiving £8,98 million from investors while remitting only £968,113 to trading platforms and diverting approximately £1,067,246 to personal expenditure. The CPS has confirmed it will commence confiscation proceedings.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has announced a new programme of research designed to help identify, understand and tackle disproportionality in its charging decisions. The CPS previously commissioned the University of Leeds to examine the outcomes of it's charging decisions and identify whether demographic factors led to disproportionate outcomes, which found that defendants from minority ethnic backgrounds were significantly more likely to be charged for a comparable offence than White British defendants, but the study could not identify what factors are causing this disparity. As a result, the CPS has created an independent Disproportionality Advisory Group, made up of academics and third sector specialists, to oversee and provide expert scrutiny of a comprehensive programme of further research.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has announced that a man who ran a company trading in horses has been jailed for 28 months for tax fraud. Anthony Gribbin submitted false invoices to His Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) to fraudulently claim back VAT from them, transferred the money to his personal account and described the payments in his bank records as payments to 'Alanhar'. Gribbin has pled guilty to fraudulent evasion of VAT and possessing criminal property and has been disqualified from being a company director for six years.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has announced that Stewart David Pearman, aged 75, has been jailed for five years and three months for fraud and making a false statement on oath, after creating a false 'letter of wishes' in attempt to steal more than £2m intended for an air ambulance charity. Two further defendats were involved and have been sentenced to four months imprisonment suspended for 12 months.
