The Criminal Procedure Rule Committee (CPRC) and Ministry of Justice (MoJ) have published a guide to the Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Rules 2024, SI 2024/62 and a 'notice and application for a serious disruption prevention order' form. The guide describes the amendments made to the Criminal Procedure Rules including new rules regarding prosecution disclosure management documents, independent domestic violence administrators and independent sexual violence advisors; amendment to the rules regarding applications to vary pre-charge bail conditions, property confiscation and seizure, search warrants, prosecution orders and comparable orders; the correction of court records; provision for editing of video recordings of pre-trial cross-examination; and to align the description of time limits in confiscation and restraint proceedings across all Criminal Procedure Rules. Additionally, the guide provides clarity on the application of existing rules about live links and the rules regarding prosecution and defence disclosure obligations. The guide provides further information on the implementation of the Law Commissions recommendations on confiscation and restraint order proceedings and revokes rules that supplement unimplemented statutory provisions about defendant’s evidence directions.

The Criminal Procedure Rule Committee (CPRC) and the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) have published a new trial preparation form for magistrates' court breach proceedings, along with accompanying guidance notes. The form is intended for use with the Criminal Procedure Rules, Part 3: case management in magistrates' courts in England and Wales.

The Criminal Procedure Rule Committee (CPRC) and Ministry of Justice (MoJ) have published an updated notice to introduce hearsay evidence form. The form has been updated to amend the time limits for when a notice must be served to introduce hearsay evidence and when a party must apply to object to the introduction of the evidence.

The Criminal Procedure Rule Committee (CPRC) and Ministry of Justice (MoJ) have updated the Criminal Appeal Office guidance for lodging appeals.

The Criminal Procedure Rule Committee (CPRC) and the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) have updated two appeal forms under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 (POCA 2002). The updated forms comprise: (1) the notice and grounds of application for leave to appeal about compliance, restraint or receivership decisions under POCA 2002, ss 13B, 43 or 65 (Criminal Procedure Rule (CrimPR) 42.15); and (2) the notice and grounds of application for leave to appeal about confiscation under POCA 2002, s 31 (CrimPR 42.11). Both forms are intended for use under CrimPR Part 42, which governs appeals to the Court of Appeal in confiscation and related proceedings.

The Civil Procedure Rule Committee (CPRC) has announced that its annual open meeting will take place via Microsoft Teams on 9 May 2025. The meeting will be open to observers subject to space limitations, with applications closing at 4pm on 7 April 2025. Attendees must submit applications via email to CPRC@justice.gov.uk and while direct participation is not permitted, pre-submitted questions will be addressed at the meeting's conclusion. The committee has indicated that meeting agenda topics will be confirmed closer to the date.

The Criminal Procedure Rule Committee (CPRC) and Ministry of Justice (MoJ) have announced that changes to the Criminal Procedure Rules made by the Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Rules 2026 came into force on 6 April 2026. The Criminal Procedure Rules 2025 and Practice Directions page has been updated accordingly to reflect these changes.

The Civil Procedure Rule Committee (CPRC) has published a consultation on proposed draft amendments to the Civil Procedure Rules. The consultation follows the judgment of  Churchill v Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council [2023] EWCA Civ 1416. The consultation closes on 28 May 2024.
