The National Pharmacy Association (NPA) has published analysis showing deprived council areas have been disproportionately impacted by pharmacy closures over the last three years. The analysis found three quarters of the top 50 areas for closures had higher than average deprivation levels, with around 1,400 pharmacies shutting since 2016 when government funding was first cut. The NPA called for urgent funding increases to address a £2.6bn funding gap.
