The International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) and the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) have signed a letter of intent to enhance cooperation in combating corruption, financial crime, cyber-enabled fraud and money laundering. This agreement was signed by AfDB President Dr. Akinwumi Adesina and INTERPOL Secretary General Valdecy Urquiza. The agreement addresses the continent's significant challenges with illicit financial flows, estimated at $90bn annually.

The International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) concluded their Global Fraud Summit on 17 March 2026 with calls for strengthened global cooperation against fraud. The two-day summit in Vienna focused on technology-enabled fraud, particularly the use of generative artificial intelligence and deep-fake technologies by criminals. Over 1,300 participants from 47 countries attended, with representatives pledging specific actions to disrupt fraudulent systems. During the summit, INTERPOL released the second edition of its Global Financial Fraud Threat Assessment. Meanwhile, the Global Anti-Scam Alliance estimated that global fraud losses amount to USD442 billion.

INTERPOL has announced that it will be holding its 17th International Law Enforcement Intellectual Property (IP) Crime Conference titled, 'Fighting IP Crime: A global responsibility'. The conference will be held in Curaçao and is aimed at strengthening global partnerships and coordinate action to counter iIP crime. It also seeks to shape effective enforcement strategies.

INTERPOL has announced the results of Operation Synergia III, a multinational cybercrime enforcement initiative targeting phishing, malware and ransomware activity. The operation, conducted between 18 July 2025 and 31 January 2026, involved law enforcement authorities from 72 countries and territories. It resulted in 94 arrests, with 110 individuals remaining under investigation and the takedown of more than 45,000 malicious internet protocol (IP) addresses and servers and the seizure of 212 electronic devices and servers. Preliminary reports from participating countries also indicate that: (1) law enforcement authorities in Macau, China, identified more than 33,000 phishing and fraudulent websites, related to fake casinos and critical infrastructure; (2) police in Togo arrested ten suspects operating a fraud ring from a residential area and (3) 40 suspects in Bangladesh were arrested in connection with cybercrime schemes, including loan and job scams, identity theft and credit card fraud.
