The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has released preliminary dispute resolution statistics for 2024, revealing a record-breaking year for the total value of claims pending. The ICC registered 831 new cases under its Arbitration Rules, with an additional 10 cases under the Appointing Authority Rules. The Expedited Procedure Provisions saw 152 new cases, bringing the total to 865 since its 2017 inception. Notably, the aggregate amount in dispute for pending cases reached an unprecedented $354bn. The statistics demonstrate ICC's global reach, with 2,392 parties from 136 jurisdictions participating in arbitrations, and tribunals seated in 107 cities across 62 countries. State involvement remained significant, with 19% of new cases including states or state-owned entities. The ICC International Centre for ADR also reported 61 new requests across various dispute resolution mechanisms.

The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has published Appendix III to the ICC Rules for the Administration of Expert Proceedings, effective from 1 January 2026. The appendix establishes costs for proceedings under Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) objection and appeal procedures. Filing fees are set at €10,000 for both objectors and applicants, with €5,000 being non-refundable. Administrative expenses are capped at €7,000 for one-expert panels and €12,000 for three-expert panels absent exceptional circumstances. Expert fees comprise a fixed €4,000 for Quick Look Reviews and €450 per hour for subsequent work. The appendix also establishes €1,000 daily rates for virtual hearings hosted by the ICC Hearing Centre and provides for mediation proceedings under ICC Mediation Rules with combined filing fees and administrative expenses not exceeding €5,000.

The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has published ‘ICC Dispute Resolution 2023 Statistics’. The statistics cover a range of areas within the ICC International Court of Arbitration and the ICC International Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution. The number of cases registered at the International Court of Arbitration increased from 695 in 2022 to 870 in 2023, whilst the ICC Court approved 520 awards, which is a decrease from the 576 awards approved in 2022.

The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has published Wave 2 of its Principles for Sustainable Trade Finance, expanding the framework to include social impact criteria. The update introduces the new Principles for Social Trade Finance (PSoTF), which align with Loan Market Association standards, and provides enhanced guidance for sustainability-linked supply chain finance. In addition, the ICC has launched a public consultation for stakeholder feedback on the new components, which will run until 5 September 2025, with formal ratification anticipated in Q3/Q4 2025. These principles are designed to offer banks and corporates standardised criteria for assessing both environmental and social sustainability in trade finance transactions.

The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has released the fifth article in its six-part series on the 2026 ICC Arbitration Rules, which will come into force on 1 June 2026. This article focuses on Article 30, which now codifies early determination—previously only addressed in the ICC's Note to Parties and Arbitral Tribunals since October 2017—directly into the Rules. Under Article 30, any party may apply to have claims or defences declared manifestly without merit or manifestly outside the tribunal's jurisdiction. While tribunals retain discretion to determine whether such applications should proceed, they are encouraged to consider factors such as timing and cost-efficiency when making their decision.

The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has published the final 2026 Arbitration Rules, which will govern cases administered by the ICC International Court of Arbitration from 1 June 2026. The Rules set out provisions relating to the commencement of arbitration, the arbitral tribunal, arbitral proceedings, awards, costs and other procedural matters, including Emergency Arbitrator, Expedited Procedure and Highly Expedited Arbitration proceedings. They also include appendices and a Schedule of Fees, establishing the framework for the administration, costs and conduct of ICC arbitration.

The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has published its fulll 2025 dispute resolution statistics report, recording 894 new cases and 1,869 pending cases at year end. The 2,531 parties in newly registered cases came from 147 countries, matching the record set in 2019. Construction and energy disputes accounted for 43% of new filings, with the US, Brazil, Spain and France among the most represented nationalities. The average amount in dispute in new cases exceeded USD 50 million, with aggregate new-case disputes totalling approximately USD 41 billion. In 2025, 169 cases were administered under the Expedited Procedure Provisions and 30 Emergency Arbitrator applications were filed. The ICC Court approved 607 draft awards while 998 arbitrators from 93 jurisdictions served across cases. Women arbitrators represented 29.6% of confirmations and appointments, more than doubling their share since 2015 when they accounted for 10.4%. Arbitrations were seated in 123 cities across 70 countries, with Paris, London and New York being the most frequently selected.

The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has published guidance setting out practical direction on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in advertising and marketing communications. The guidance explains how the ICC Advertising and Marketing Communications Code applies when AI is used to create, target or deliver marketing content and clarifies that the code’s requirement that communications be legal, decent, honest and truthful applies irrespective of the technology used. It outlines how existing standards apply to AI and similar technologies, while identifying key risks in AI-driven marketing, including transparency, accountability, substantiation of claims, data use and the need to obtain consent where the likeness of real individuals is used. The guidance also addresses governance and oversight, encouraging organisations to adopt appropriate processes and clear accountability structures when deploying AI in campaigns.

The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has published new provisions of the Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits (UCP). The updated UCP 600 includes a ‘definitions’ article designed to clarify the meaning of key terms, a changed practice for giving a notice of refusal and other modifications. It also includes version 2.1 of the eUCP—the 14 articles of ICC's supplement to the UCP that govern the presentation of documents in electronic form.
