The International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) has launched a public consultation on the development of the Common Framework for the Supervision of Internationally Active Insurance Groups (ComFrame) material for Insurance Capital Standard (ICS)-related standards. The consultation seeks stakeholder input on proposed ComFrame material relating to ICS supervisory reporting (Insurance Core Principle (ICP) CF 9.4), ICS public disclosure (ICP CF 20.10) and a new paragraph 47 in the ComFrame Assessment Methodology. Responses are sought by 5 February 2026.

The International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) has launched a consultation on its draft revised Application Papers on (i) recovery planning and (ii) resolution powers, preparation and plans. The revisions follow the 2024 updates to the Insurance Core Principles (ICPs) and the Common Framework for the Supervision of Internationally Active Insurance Groups (ComFrame). They aim to enhance clarity, promote global consistency, and incorporate lessons learned from prior implementation, while aligning with the Financial Stability Board’s Key Attributes of Effective Resolution Regimes for Financial Institutions. Responses are sought on the draft revised papers by 25 February 2026. A public webinar will be held on 14 January 2026 to brief stakeholders.

The International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) has launched a consultation on the review of the Individual Insurer Monitoring (IIM) assessment methodology, which forms part of the Global Monitoring Exercise (GME) under the IAIS Holistic Framework. The IAIS seeks stakeholders’ input on the review of the IIM assessment methodology for the next three-year cycle of application (2026–2028). Responses will be considered in the finalisation of the methodology and reflected in an updated public GME document. Feedback is requested by 18 August 2025. A public background webinar will be held on 27 June 2025 to present the consultation and respond to stakeholder questions.

The International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) has launched the third in a series of four consultations on climate risk in the insurance sector, proposing changes in selected Insurance Core Principle (ICP) guidance and supporting material. This consultation covers issues related to corporate governance, risk management and internal controls, valuation of assets and liabilities for solvency purposes, investment activities of insurers and insurers’ enterprise risk management framework. Responses are sought by 19 June 2024.

The International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) has published its ‘Application Paper on fair treatment of a wide range of consumers’, following a public consultation conducted in 2024. The paper supports the implementation of Insurance Core Principle (ICP) 19 on conduct of business. It provides recommendations on how insurers and intermediaries can embed fair treatment into their business culture and apply it throughout the product lifecycle, including product design, distribution, communications, advice, customer assistance, claims, complaints, and product monitoring and review. The paper acknowledges the continued role of risk-based pricing and insurers’ discretion in defining the scope of their business and suggests ways to implement these principles while promoting accessibility, fairness and responsiveness to a wide range of consumer needs. A public webinar explaining the paper will be held on 12 August 2025.

It guides supervisors, insurers and intermediaries on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) issues to help them interpret and fulfil existing requirements of Insurance Core Principle (ICP) 19 (Conduct of Business) so that fair treatment is achieved for diverse consumers. Responses are sought by 25 September 2024.

The International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) has agreed on an initial plan for Insurance Capital Standard (ICS) implementation ahead of adoption in December 2024, and published the 2024 ICS data collection package for the final year of the monitoring period. Implementation assessment of the ICS will follow a two-step approach. In 2026 the IAIS will co-ordinate a baseline self-assessment by IAIS members of their implementation of the ICS. The IAIS will then aim to start the first in-depth targeted jurisdictional assessments of ICS implementation in 2027.

The report details significant milestones, collaborative initiatives, and strategic advancements achieved in 2024. It also offers an overview of the IAIS’s mission, strategy, and its role in the global financial supervisory framework, while also highlighting key achievements from its committees, working groups, task forces, and forums. Additionally, the report introduces the new Strategic Plan for 2025–2029 and summarises the quantifiable deliverables.

The paper was released after a public consultation period between March and June 2024. The IAIS' work on diversity, equity, and inclusion will be discussed at the IAIS Annual Conference 2024, scheduled for 5—6 December 2024 in Cape Town, South Africa.

The International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) has published the final version of its Application Paper on the supervision of artificial intelligence (AI), following a public consultation held earlier in 2025. The paper provides guidance on how supervisors and insurers can apply existing insurance core principles (ICPs) to the use of AI systems, reinforcing that expectations around governance, conduct, and risk management remain central as AI technologies are adopted in the insurance sector. It covers five key areas: risk-based supervision and proportionality, governance and accountability, robustness, safety and security, transparency and explainability, and fairness, ethics and redress. The IAIS notes that these principles are intended to support supervisors in assessing how insurers implement AI in a manner consistent with sound prudential and conduct practices. A public webinar will be held on 17 July 2025 to present the final paper and respond to stakeholder questions and will also introduce the IAIS’s new consultation on its draft Application Paper on operational resilience objectives and toolkit.
