Many companies choose to adopt statutory default articles of association upon incorporation rather than drafting their own bespoke articles of association. Since 1 October 2009, such default articles of association have been known as the model articles. Prior to that date, they were known as 'Table A'. There have been a number of versions of and amendments to the model articles and to Table A since their first introduction in the Joint Stock Companies Act 1865 (but note that Table A was initially known as 'Table B' because in that Act they were preceded by a form of Memorandum of Association called ‘Form A'). The version of default articles that applies to any given company is the version in force at the date that the company was registered. Newer versions or amendments to the default statutory articles are not automatically applied

The most common type of security in respect of borrowing is a legal mortgage. A legal mortgage will be registered at HM Land Registry and will rank in priority to subsequent encumbrances. Legal mortgages are governed by sections 85 and 86 of the Law of Property Act 1925 (LPA 1925), which contain mechanisms for the grant of a leasehold interest, and LPA 1925, s 87, which provides for the execution of a deed secured as a charge and which is the commonly used modern method for the grant of standard mortgages. An equitable charge is a proprietary interest granted by way of security over property, which confers rights in rem which are binding on third parties provided that they have notice, and are unaffected by insolvency.

See further, timeline Case facts Outline UK merger investigation into the anticipated acquisition by Hitachi Rail, Ltd of Thales SA’s Ground Transportation Systems Business. The transaction involves horizontal overlaps in the supply of mainline rail signalling and urban signalling systems. Latest developments On 4 October 2023, the CMA issued its final report, finding that the transaction may be expected to result in an SLC in the supply of digital mainline signalling systems (and related services) in Great Britain. To remedy the SLC, the CMA has decided that the most effect remedy was for Hitachi Rail, Ltd to sell parts of its mainline signalling business to a

The House of Commons (HoC Library) has published a briefing on the UK government’s response to the Windrush scandal. This concerned the cohort of people who migrated to the UK from Caribbean Commonwealth countries between 1948 and 1973, and are entitled to live in the UK permanently, but some people subsequently did not have documentation to prove this. As a result they were wrongly treated as not being lawfully in the UK, and were denied access to employment, healthcare and other services, and in some cases detained or removed from the country. The briefing looks at the previous government’s response to the scandal, including its schemes to provide proof of immigration status, and to provide compensation for losses experienced. It also looks at the 'Lessons Learned' review by Wendy Williams, and the new Labour government's proposals to improve the response.
