The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has published guidance sharing examples of good practice and areas for improvement in recent authorisation and registration applications. The FCA expects firms to take ownership of their applications under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (FSMA 2000), the Payment Services Regulations 2017, SI 2017/752 (PSRs 2017) and the Electronic Money Regulations 2011, SI 2011/99 (EMRs 2011), demonstrate commitment to operating in the UK, maintain proportionate systems and controls, and embed the Consumer Duty throughout their operations.

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has published the key findings from its review of larger insurance firms’ approaches to outcomes monitoring under the Consumer Duty, and warned firms that they must regularly monitor the outcomes retail customers receive to identify whether they are meeting their obligations under the Duty. In December 2023 the FCA requested the most recent board and/or committee reporting from 20 larger insurance firms. It says it saw a wide variety in the quality of responses by firms, including a number of good and poor practices, which are set out in the findings.

Pritchard emphasises the FCA is pursuing ‘smarter’ regulation rather than ‘lighter touch’ regulation.

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has published a speech by its chief executive, Nikhil Rathi, at the Association of British Insurers roundtable detailing significant regulatory changes. Effective from 27 February 2025, the Consumer Duty board champion requirement is removed, and approximately 50 growth proposals related to mortgage affordability and digital payments will be implemented. The FCA plans to launch the 'My FCA' portal in March 2025 and conduct new market studies into premium finance and pure protection.

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has published a speech by its chief executive, Nikhil Rathi, delivered at the Corporation of the City of London’s annual City Dinner on 22 October 2025, urging that finance be placed at the centre of the UK’s national security strategy. Rathi said that modern conflicts affect balance sheets, markets and consumers as much as physical battlefields, and that financial services should link national mission and resources to deliver the combined benefits of security, growth and market integrity.

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has published a speech by its chair, Ashley Alder, delivered at the Climate Financial Risk Forum's Symposium on 23 October 2025, highlighting that climate risk is significant and financially material and calling for industry collaboration to position the UK as the world’s sustainable finance centre. Alder outlined the FCA’s initiatives to integrate ISSB standards into UK rules, introduce new climate disclosure rules and measures under the Public Offers and Admissions to Trading Regime, and bring ESG ratings providers within its regulatory perimeter to improve transparency and investor confidence. He also announced a joint pilot with the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) and the Green Finance Institute (GFI) to identify potential barriers to scaling finance for climate solutions, and a technical assistance programme to support sustainable finance frameworks in Asia. Emphasising that climate change affects credit risk, insurance risk, market stability and operational resilience, Alder urged firms to ‘seek out the opportunities’ and reaffirmed the FCA’s commitment to clear, proportionate rules, global cooperation and innovation to make the UK a leader in sustainable finance.

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has published a speech by Therese Chambers, Joint Executive Director of Enforcement and Market Oversight, delivered at the City & Financial Global FCA Investigations and Enforcement Summit. In her remarks, Chambers addresses the FCA’s shift in approach to enforcement cases including its greater use of supervisory powers prior to opening investigations, its increasing use of criminal powers and its prioritisation of cooperation, remediation and consumer redress. Alder highlights cooperation in green finance and the UK-China Green Finance taskforce, and stresses the importance of both nations working toward harmonised standards and improved sustainability disclosures. Alder suggests that a proposed China-UK Wealth Connect scheme could be a transformative next step for cross-border wealth management. Additionally, he  announces the development of a Memorandum of Understanding  between the FCA and China’s National Financial Regulatory Administration to facilitate secure data sharing and effective cross-border supervision. Alder also addresses the need to resolve technical issues in existing initiatives such as Stock Connect, which has facilitated significant cross-border listings.
