The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) has launched a consultation on proposed strategic policy guidance for the Gas and Electricity Markets Authority (GEMA), the governing body of Ofgem, under the Electricity Act 1989, on delivering growth through electricity networks. The draft guidance is intended to help ensure that electricity network development supports economic growth while remaining consistent with Ofgem’s statutory objectives, duties and functions. It outlines key considerations for GEMA, including strategic planning, skills, procurement, social value and accountability in supporting electricity network expansion. DESNZ states that the proposed guidance responds to a significant and time-critical opportunity to strengthen domestic production across electricity network supply chains. The consultation closes on 19 August 2026.

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) has launched a consultation on an updated approach to managing interference from onshore wind turbines affecting the Eskdalemuir Seismic Array in southern Scotland, with responses due by 12 June 2026. The proposals include extending the existing Exclusion Zone from a 10 km to a 15 km radius around the Array, introducing a Seismic Impact Limit of between 0.004614 and 0.005479 nm/√MW for individual turbines and adopting revised methodology for measuring cumulative Seismic Ground Vibrations using turbine-specific data.

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) has launched a consultation seeking views on proposals to replace the current Ecodesign Regulations for electrically powered, gas and liquid fuelled local space heater products, SI 2015/1188 with new standards aligned with the EU Regulation (EU) 2024/1103. DESNZ states that the aim is to enhance product efficiency, reduce energy demand and cut costs and support a circular economy. The consultation closes on 20 May 2026.

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) has published its response to the consultation on proposed changes to the Capacity Market (CM) ahead of Prequalification 2026. It has decided not to proceed with the policy proposals associated with the Multiple Price Capacity Market (MPCM). DESNZ consulted in October 2025 on changes to the CM ahead of Prequalification 2026, which included proposals for the potential introduction of an MPCM. A further consultation in December 2025 included additional changes related to the possible introduction of the MPCM.

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) has updated its Energy Bills Discount Scheme (EBDS) guidance for licensed energy suppliers, scheme administrators, and non-domestic energy customers to include the Energy Bills Discount Scheme (Amendment) Rules 2024 for Great Britain and Northern Ireland. This amendment notes a change in supplier adjustment windows, moving the already published April 2024 claim date to May 2024.

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) has released new regulations on the Green Gas Support Scheme (GGSS) which come into effect on 4 June 2024. The scheme has now been extended to 31 March 2028, providing an additional two years and four months for prospective applicants to fully register. The decision to extend the GGSS closure date came after a mid-scheme review consultation, where a majority of respondents were in favour of an extension. The GGSS provides tariff-based support for biomethane produced using anaerobic digestion and injected into the gas grid, as a direct replacement for natural gas.

The report notes that Allocation Round 7 (AR7) for CfDs has opened but has not yet concluded, with outcomes to be reported in the next annual update, and flags several forthcoming announcements and policy milestones for early 2026, including publication of AR7 results and a government response on Clean Industry Bonus reforms for Allocation Round 8.

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) has increased the Clean Industry Bonus (CIB) funding from £200m to £544m, following a surge in bids from the UK’s offshore wind sector. The CIB application window has now closed, with successful bids to be announced after the final budget in May 2025.

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) has invited Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)-authorised UK lenders to apply to participate in the first phase of the Warm Homes Loan Scheme (WHLS), which aims to increase private lending for home energy-efficiency improvements. Announced under the Warm Homes Plan, the scheme will deploy £300 million in grant funding to reduce borrowing costs for eligible consumers and support the growth of the green home finance market. It is open to lenders that offer, or intend to offer, consumer finance for home retrofit projects and can meet the scheme timetable. Applications for the first phase close on 17 July 2026.
