The Council of the EU has agreed to extend the application timeline of Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 (the EU Deforestation Regulation) by 12 months. This decision allows third countries, Member States, traders, and operators more time to meet due diligence requirements, which seek to ensure deforestation-free products, such as cattle, wood, and cocoa, are placed on the EU market or exported from the EU. If approved by the European Parliament, the new application dates of the EU Deforestation Regulation will be 30 December 2025 for large operators and traders, and 30 June 2026 for micro and small enterprises, allowing for smoother implementation.
