The Chancellor of the High Court has issued a Practice Note requiring parties to file and serve costs information using electronic Excel spreadsheet versions of forms N260A and N260B for all summary assessments from 14 April 2026. The requirement applies to proceedings in the Chancery Division, Technology and Construction Court, Commercial Court and London Circuit Commercial Court at the Rolls Building. Parties must submit the electronic versions in addition to any other format ordinarily used, including PDF or paper copies. The practice note also confirms that the existing timing requirements under Practice Direction 44, paragraph 9.5(4), remain unchanged.

The Chancellor of the High Court, Sir Julian Flaux, has launched a consultation on a revised Practice Statement covering schemes of arrangement under Part 26 and restructuring plans under Part 26A of the Companies Act 2006.

The Chancellor has published the terms of reference for phase one of the pensions review. As previously announced by the Chancellor on 20 July 2024 as part of its pre-election manifesto pledge, the pensions review will be led by the joint HM Treasury-Department for Work and Pensions Minister,  Emma Reynolds MP, and will focus on defined contribution workplace schemes and the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). The first phase of the review will focus broadly on investment and is set to report its initial findings later in 2024, which will be ahead of the introduction of the Pension Schemes Bill. The second phase is set to begin later in 2024 and, alongside investments, will consider further steps to improve pension outcomes, including retirement adequacy. The review secretariat is also set to consult with the pensions industry as it develops its analysis and policy options.

HM Treasury (HMT) has published a letter from the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves, providing recommendations for the Financial Market Infrastructure Committee within the Bank of England. Key recommendations relate to the encouragement of innovation and new ideas at FMIs, streamlining of administrative burdens and international leadership on key regulatory issues.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves, made a statement to the House of Commons on public spending inheritance. It addressed what the Chancellor stated was the unsustainable overspend of the previous government departments. The Chancellor hopes to reduce pressure on the public finances by £5.5bn this year and over £8bn next year. Concerning the ‘Advanced British Standard’, the policy will not go ahead as it can not be afforded. In regard to adult social care, the Chancellor highlights the neglect of the previous governments, citing this as the reason that it will not be possible to take forward proposed reforms. However, this is hoped to save over £1bn by the end of next year.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves, has announced a £6.5 billion uplift to the British Business Bank (BBB)'s Growth Guarantee Scheme (GGS), designed to unlock an additional £6.5 billion of market lending over four years for an estimated 33,000 businesses across the UK. The enhanced package extends the maximum facility terms for term loans and asset finance from six to ten years, while raising the annual turnover eligibility threshold from £45 million to £54 million.
