Article summary
The European Commission has launched four consultations on the upcoming revisions to the laws created to reduce the EU’s emissions of greenhouse gases. The consultations are open to all members of the public and relate to the revision of the EU Emissions Trading System Directive, Effort Sharing Regulation, Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry Regulation and CO2 standards for cars and vans Regulation (light-duty vehicles). The Commission aims to revise these frameworks, which cover emissions across all sectors of the economy, in order to achieve a net reduction of 'at least 55% of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and climate-neutrality by 2050'. The deadline for responses to the consultations is 5 February 2021.
