The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has stated that a mistake has been identified in the 2018-2019 Living Costs and Food Survey (LCF) dataset which has created an error to the Retail Prices Index (RPI) for 2020. This error has not impacted the Consumer Prices Index (CPI), or the owner occupiers’ housing costs (CPIH). The ONS has stated that steps are being taken to safeguard errors of this kind from happening in the future. The LCF will further undergo an end-to-end review of the current quality assurance processes.
