The National Grid has announced a new substation in Lambeth will be at the heart of the London Power Tunnels (LPT) project, and the first in the UK to be built using Hitachi Energy’s Sulphur Hexafluoride (SF6) free gas insulated switchgear technology. The project forms part of the National Grid’s ambition to halve its SF6 emissions by 2030 and have no SF6 in electrical assets by 2050.
