The Probate Service Team has written to the probate users group to confirm a number of changes to be made to the online probate application service with effect from 19 August 2021. The improvements to the service include allowing applications by trust corporations, allowing applications where there is only a notarial copy or court sealed copy of the Will, enabling practitioners to amend all elements of an application up until it is submitted, allowing the legal statement to be signed (including with a digital signature) by a practitioner on behalf of the client and any applying executors and allowing the legal statement to be uploaded or sent by post, as well as more prompts for further information to be included in the application where required. There is no longer a requirement to submit a death certificate for any pre-deceased executors.
