Members of Parliament have voted on 13 July 2021 to keep the international development budget at 0.5% of GDP, rather than the statutory target of 0.7%, as reported in Hansard. Per sections 1 and 3 of the International Development (Official Development Assistance Target) Act 2015, the government has a duty to reach a contribution of 0.7% of GDP, although the provisions are not binding, with the government then having a duty to lay a statement before Parliament if the target is not reached.
