The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) has published a press release announcing the government will invest £212m in homes to help rough sleepers. Homes will be available across England and will provide long term accommodation for rough sleepers. The scheme will be supported by specialist staff in providing support for rough sleepers. Investment for longer term accommodation is the next step in the scheme, with 6,000 homes pledged by the end of this Parliament as well as £750m to be spent over the next year in a drive to eliminate rough sleeping also by the end of this Parliament. MHCLG highlights that for a share of the £212m funding for the next three years, councils are invited to bid a for a share of the investment. This invitation to bid is part of a £433m investment in providing safe, long term and stable housing for rough sleepers.
