The Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee has adopted a resolution outlining its demands for the COP27 Climate Change Conference, which will be held in Egypt between 6–18 November 2022. MEPs have called on the EU and all G20 nations to commit to more ambitious greenhouse gas reduction targets ahead of COP27 and update their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to limit global warming to 1.5°C. The resolution also calls on all developed countries, including the EU, to ensure the annual US$100bn climate finance goal was met. MEPs likewise want to ensure the EU provides financial support, at least equivalent in financial value to the revenues generated by the sale of Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism certificates, to support least developed countries' efforts to decarbonise.
