Article summary

The Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman (LGSCO) has reported that an autistic man has his employment, family life and sense of self at risk due to Bradford Council’s failure to provide support. According to the LGSCO, the man, who lives with his partner and children, needed support to go about his daily life and complained that the Council infringed his human rights by taking four months to complete an assessment and a further 16 months to provide the services required. The LGSCO investigation found that there was confusion about who should support the man, with the council suggesting that the man should be supported by the local mental health team. The council agreed to apologised to the man and his wife and pay them a combined £4,000 for the loss of services and avoidable distress caused.
