The Local Government Association (LGA) has commented on the Prime Minister’s review of Low Traffic Neighbourhoods in England. The LGA’s transport spokesperson, Cllr Linda Taylor, has said that ‘Councils are on the side of all road users and residents, and are working hard to tackle congestion, make our air cleaner and improve the quality of life in their communities. We want to work with government to achieve this.’ The LGA has also expressed its view that a national review of the plan is unnecessary, as it believes that councils are best placed to make decisions within their communities based on local circumstances. Therefore, Taylor has called for government to work together with councils in order to meet its target of 50% of urban journeys being ‘walked, wheeled or cycled’ by 2030.
