The Environment Agency (EA) has published the results of its study into how the amount of methane produced by onshore oil and gas sites can be quantified. The study involved combining data on methane concentrations with wind seeds and directions, as well as the assistance of computer modelling. The study aimed to establish what methodology could be employed so that whole-site methane emissions could be calculated. The report concluded that whole-site methane emissions can be quantified by combining the measurement of each individual source or by measurements of the total methane plume from the whole site.
