The Department for Transport (DfT) has published an outline for the future of transport in the UK made by Transport Secretary, Grant Shapps. In the speech, Shapps said that the UK has potential to be Europe’s largest economy by 2050 and that the investment in the North and Midlands is key to achieving this goal. According to DfT, the speech follows the recent announcement of the £401m investment for faster, greener, and more reliable rail services. In his speech Shapps, said: ‘Transport links are the arteries through which the lifeblood of human interaction flows, so as our country prospers and our economy grows, so too will our transport system.’
