The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) has announced that £80m will be made available through the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) Wave 2.2 to upgrade the housing stock currently below the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) band C up to that standard. This will increase energy efficiency and warmth in homes, tackle fuel poverty, and reduce carbon emissions. All existing social housing (as defined by the Housing and Regeneration Act 2008), below EPC band C is eligible for this scheme, with funding allocated from April 2024. Proposals must include a minimum of 100 eligible social housing at EPC band D–G per bid, submit the bid as part of a consortium, or provide a strong justification if applications with fewer eligible properties need to be prepared.
