Article summary
The Department for Education has launched a consultation on its National Plan for Music Education initiative. The National Plan aims to give broader access to music to children from all backgrounds, allowing them to learn how to play an instrument, read music or perform in a choir and builds upon the £85m given to current music and arts programmes. A refreshed National Plan will be published in autumn 2020, adjusting the current National Plan which was released in 2011. The government is seeking views from musicians, specialist teachers, children and parents on inclusivity, technology and music education hubs. The consultation closes on 13 March 2020.
