Financial Services Act 2012 (2012 c 21)

The 2012 legislation fundamentally reorganised the UK's financial regulatory structure. Enacted in response to the 2008 financial crisis, it replaced the Financial Services Authority (FSA) with two new regulators: the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA), aimed at increasing oversight and stability in the financial system. It also established the Financial Policy Committee (FPC) within the Bank of England to oversee macroprudential regulation. The Act enhances accountability, consumer protection, and establishes mechanisms for resolving failing financial institutions to prevent systemic risks.
