European Union (Withdrawal) (No 2) Act 2019 (2019 c 26)

This Act, commonly known as the Benn Act, was implemented to prevent the United Kingdom from leaving the European Union without a withdrawal agreement in place. It required the Prime Minister to seek an extension to Article 50 if a deal was not approved by Parliament by 19 October 2019, unless Parliament consented to a no-deal Brexit. The Act aimed to ensure that the UK did not face the economic and legal uncertainties associated with a no-deal Brexit, essentially mandating more time for negotiation and parliamentary scrutiny.
