Commission imposes definitive anti-dumping duties on flat hot-rolled steel from Egypt, Japan and Vietnam

The European Commission has imposed definitive anti-dumping duties on imports of flat hot-rolled steel products from Egypt, Japan and Vietnam, following an investigation that found the legal requirements for such measures were met. The duties, enforced for five years, range from 11.7% for Egypt, 6.9%–30% for Japan and 12.1% for Vietnam. Provisional duties in place since 7 April 2024 will not be collected retroactively. The Commission has closed its investigation into Indian imports without imposing duties, as it was not established that Indian imports were dumped.

WTO announces EU appeal of panel report on biodiesel import duties from Indonesia

The World Trade Organization (WTO) has announced that the EU has notified of its decision to appeal the panel report in the dispute brought by Indonesia regarding the countervailing duties on imports of biodiesel from Indonesia (DS618), as announced at the Dispute Settlement Body meeting. Indonesia criticised the appeal due to the current non-functioning status of the Appellate Body, while the EU reiterated its invitation for Indonesia to join the Multi-Party Interim Appeal Arrangement (MPIA) to safeguard the right to appeal. The continued inability of WTO members to agree on filling Appellate Body vacancies remains a barrier to effective dispute resolution, with Colombia, speaking on behalf of 130 members, again proposing to initiate the selection process. The United States opposed the proposal, citing concerns about the system’s effectiveness and its compatibility with national interests. TRA proposes maintaining anti-dumping duties on ironing boards imported from China until 2029

The Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) has published its Statement of Essential Facts proposing to maintain anti-dumping duties on ironing boards imported from China until 3 October 2029, following a transition review launched on 30 September 2024. Current duties range from 18.1% to 42.3%, depending on the exporter. The TRA found that the dumping of low-priced ironing boards from China would likely continue or recur if the measure were lifted, and that this would likely cause renewed harm to the UK industry. It further concluded that extending the current measure for another five years would help protect the domestic industry from unfair international trade practices. A consultation is open until 16 October 2025, allowing interested parties to comment on the findings and submit additional evidence before a final recommendation is made to the Secretary of State.
