This tracker tool tracks and summarises key 2024 EU legislation and consultations linked to the conservation, restoration, and protection of fresh and marine waters. It also summarises the main strategies, roadmaps and policy measures linked to and driving these changes. The main developments in this area are being driven by the Zero Pollution Action Plan, published on 12 May 2021, and the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, published on 20 May 2020. Council adopts position on CO2 emissions flexibility for car manufacturers 2025-2027

The Council adopted its negotiating position on 7 May 2025 on amendments to Regulation (EU) 2019/631 concerning CO₂ emissions standards for new vehicles. The amendment introduces flexibility for manufacturers by allowing compliance with emissions targets to be assessed over a three-year period (2025–2027) rather than annually, while maintaining existing reduction targets.
